The most common question we get on the phone is whether a Non-AC room is "enough". The honest answer depends on the month you are visiting, who is travelling and how you sleep. This guide lays out the weather, what each room includes, and the situations where we would tell you to save the money.

Puducherry weather, month by month

Puducherry sits on the Coromandel coast, so it is warm all year and the humidity rarely drops far. What changes is how hot the afternoons get and whether the sea breeze does its job at night.

MonthsTypical daytime highNightsOur advice
December to February28 to 30 °CPleasant, breezyNon-AC is comfortable for most guests
March to May33 to 38 °CWarm and humidBook AC
June to September32 to 35 °CWarm, occasional showersAC recommended; Non-AC is fine if you are used to the coast
October to November29 to 32 °C, monsoonVery humid, heavy rainAC recommended

The north-east monsoon arrives in mid-October, and October and November are the wettest months of the year. Temperatures fall a little, but humidity climbs to its highest, and that is what makes a fan-only room feel sticky at night.

What the price difference actually buys

Our Non-AC Standard Room and AC Standard Room are the same size, with the same layout. Both include:

  • A queen bed with fresh linen
  • An attached bathroom with hot water round the clock
  • Free high-speed WiFi
  • Colour TV, wardrobe, study table and daily housekeeping
  • Power backup and mineral water

The AC room adds a split air conditioner and blackout curtains. That is the whole difference. You are paying only for cooling and a darker room, not for a better bed or a bigger bathroom. Current tariffs for both are on the rooms page.

When Non-AC is the smart choice

  • Winter visits, December to February. The sea breeze keeps nights comfortable and most of our winter guests are happy under the fan.
  • Short stays where you are out all day. If you are visiting JIPMER from morning to evening, or exploring the town until after sunset, you only need the room to sleep in.
  • Groups watching the budget. Two Non-AC rooms cost noticeably less than two AC rooms, and the savings over a few nights pay for meals and auto rides.
  • Guests who do not like AC. Plenty of people sleep badly in air conditioning. A high-speed fan with the window open is closer to home for many of our guests.

When to pay for AC

  • April and May. Afternoons cross 35 °C and the humidity does not let up at night. This is not the time to save on cooling.
  • Elderly guests or young children. Sleep quality matters more than the difference in tariff, especially on a hospital trip.
  • Monsoon weeks. October and November rain brings humidity that a fan cannot solve, and the blackout curtains help if you want to rest during the day.
  • Working from the room. If you will spend afternoons on a laptop, a cool room is the difference between a productive day and a wasted one.

A third option: the Deluxe AC Room

If you want more space, the Deluxe AC Room has a king bed, a larger bathroom with a rainfall shower, a 40-inch LED TV, an in-room safe and a proper work desk. It is the room families book for a weekend when everyone will spend time in the room, and the one business travellers choose for a week of calls.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a Non-AC room in Puducherry comfortable in December?
Yes. From December to February daytime highs are around 28 to 30 °C and nights are breezy. Most guests find a Non-AC room with a high-speed fan perfectly comfortable in these months.
Which months are hottest in Puducherry?
April and May are the hottest, with afternoons often above 35 °C and humid nights. October and November are the wettest and most humid months because of the north-east monsoon. We recommend an AC room in all four of these months.
What is the difference between the AC and Non-AC Standard Rooms?
The rooms are the same size with the same queen bed, bathroom, WiFi and TV. The AC room adds a split air conditioner and blackout curtains.
Can I switch from Non-AC to AC after check-in?
Usually yes, subject to availability. Tell the front desk and we will move you to an AC room and adjust the tariff for the remaining nights.
